New To Heating Oil?
Why use Domestic Heating Oil?
- Domestic heating oil is used by over 1.5 million households in Britain;
- Domestic heating oil is generally cheaper than using electricity, LPG, bottled propane gas or solid fuel;
- Domestic heating oil is kinder to the environment than many alternative fuels with higher CO2 emissions;
- Today’s A-rated oil fired boilers are designed to be highly efficient and long-lasting and can be fitted in different situations to suit your home and lifestyle. The result is a safe, flexible and clean heating solution;
- Oil fired boilers allow for ‘on demand’ heating and hot water – as much as you want when you want;
- You can combine oil heated systems with alternative energy sources to reduce heating bills.
What type of Domestic Heating Oil do I need?
There are two notably different products available which may be suitable for you depending on the type of boiler that you have. A small number of home heating boilers run on gas oil (red diesel) but the vast majority use kerosene (also known as domestic heating oil).
At Oakleys Fuels, we supply gas oil and two varieties of kerosene:
Oakleys Fuels Home Heating Oil: Oakleys Fuels Home Heating Oil is a regular 28 second kerosene product which most oil fired home boilers run on. Kerosene provides a cleaner and more efficient burn than gas oil . Order home heating online 24/7 here or contact our offices directly in Telford and Tamworth.
Oakleys Fuels Kleen Burn Kerosene (KBK): Oakleys Fuels KBK is a premium, high quality 28 second heating oil specially formulated to burn at maximum possible efficiency. Please click for a quote
Oakleys Fuels Gas Oil: Oakleys 35 second Gas Oil is used occasionally in home heating boilers, is less combustible than kerosene but does give slightly more heat per unit. Oakleys Gas Oil is otherwise known as red diesel and is more commonly used in agriculture and industry . Order your gas oil online today or contact our team directly for a quote.
Oakleys Fuels Vaporising Boiler Additive (VBA): For customers with oil fired Agas and Rayburns you may wish to consider using Oakleys VBA. This is a specially formulated additive that can be applied to any order of regular kerosene in order to minimise the build-up of sooty deposits and ensure premium operating performance. If you are unsure as to which type of domestic heating oil you need, please send us an enquiry or ask your local servicing agent.
What type of oil tank do I need?
The size of the oil tank you need will depend on the space available and the estimated quantity of heating oil that you will use. Oakleys Fuels’ drivers are happy to check your oil storage tank prior to delivery and will advise you if they spot any faults. If you need to replace your oil tank, we stock a range of fuel storage tanks and can arrange delivery and installation as required. Please contact us for further advice.
My oil storage tank is some way from the road. Will you be able to reach it?
Our tankers have hoses of 150ft in length. This means we will almost certainly be able to reach your tank. You can always help us by ensuring there are no unnecessary obstacles between the road/driveway and your storage tank. We also have a range of tankers, so if you think access may be difficult, why not call us to discuss the best delivery options for your heating oil supplies.
What should I do if I discover an oil leak or spill?
As soon as you discover an oil leak or spill, you should contact the Environment Agency emergency hotline on 0800 80 70 60. It is also a good idea to have a spill kit on hand so you can mop up the worst straight away. This should contain absorbent materials, drain blockers and sealing putty.
What if I need a new boiler?
Oakleys Fuels do not sell or fit boilers but we can recommend a number of reputable suppliers and installers that do. Please contact us for details.
Does the quantity that I buy affect the price that I pay?
Yes, because our delivery costs to you are spread across the number of litres that you order. Larger orders mean that the delivery cost per litre is reduced, as is consequently the price per litre. Minimum delivery is for 500 litres.
Do you deliver to my area?
With access to two large storage depots and a modern fleet of tankers, we deliver all over the Midlands including Mid Wales, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Warwickshire. To find out whether we deliver to your area click here.
How will my Domestic Heating Oil be delivered?

Do I need to be at home?
No. Our experienced drivers can complete your oil delivery whether you are at home or not. All our deliveries are metered and you will receive a printed readout of the precise amount dispensed. Our meters are regularly checked by Trading Standards.
How do I pay for my delivery?
If your order has been placed directly with one of our depots, you can pay over the phone using debit or credit card (Visa & Mastercard accepted). Alternatively, if you order directly through the Online Oil Ordering System, payment will be automatically processed – so all you have to do is ensure you’re ready for the delivery.
